Top 10 Christmas Plants In Plants Vs Zombies

It might be quite surprising to hear that a video game franchise that revolves around defending your house using plants to mow down a zombie horde would have quite the collection of Christmas themed plants in it. In this article I will go over the top 10 Christmas themed plants.

It might be quite surprising to hear that a video game franchise that revolves around defending your house using plants to mow down a zombie horde would have quite the collection of Christmas themed plants in it. In this article I will go over the top 10 Christmas themed plants.

#10 Ice Bloom

King off the list we have Ice Bloom, an extremely disruptive plant that affects the entire board with her ability. Her effectiveness depends where she is placed on the board.

If she’s within a 3×3 radius, all zombies in the vicinity will be frozen solid for a lengthy period of time. Any zombies outside the vicinity will still be slowed down. If you want a great stall plant that allows you to safely prepare your defenses, Ice Bloom is a great choice.

#9 Ice Shroom

Ice Shroom has seen many changes throughout the years and functions differently in every game he appears in. For this article I will be focusing on his appearance in Plants vs Zombies 1, as that version is my favorite iteration of Ice Shroom.

Ice Shroom in the original Plants vs Zombies has a very strong effect that once it’s planted, it will freeze all zombies on the board for a long period of time in addition to a cool ice sound effect, at the cost of a slow recharge time. This effect can get you out of some very sticky situations and grants you an opportunity to counterattack Zombies in their vulnerable, frozen state.

#8 Snow Pea

Much like the aforementioned Ice Shroom, Snow Pea’s iterations vary throughout the games it appears in. I will once again use the PvZ 1 version of the character for this article. Snow Pea is one of the first plants the player unlocks in the original game and is a must have in the early game.

Snow Pea, as the name suggests, slows down zombies to a slog when it hits them with its projectiles. It is more expensive than the standard Peashooter but the slow down effect is more than worth it.

#7 Winter Melon

Unlike the last two entries, Winter Melon’s mechanics have been consistent in every installment it appears in. Winter Melon is the upgraded form of Melon Pult and has the devastating Snow Pea-Like effect but with additional splash damage that both damages zombies next door and slows them down.

If you ever need a heavy duty plant that can slow down zombies, Winter Melon is the plant for the job.

#6 Winter Squash

Exclusively appearing in Plants vs Zombies Heroes, Winter Squash mechanically performs much differently than his normal Squash counterpart. While the standard squash well….. squashes zombies, Winter Squash instead allows you to instantly destroy any zombie that is frozen, whether it’s Iceberg Lettuce, Chilli Pepper, Holly Jolly, doesn’t matter. The zombie will automatically be destroyed with Winter Squash’s freeze breath.

Overall, Winter Squash is a jolly, shivery fellow that can instantly turn around games in one devastating combo.

#5 Frost Rose

Much like the aforementioned Winter Squash, Frost Rose is also exclusive to one game, that being Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2. This chilly beauty can be a strong contributor to a plant team if the player knows how to use her. Frost Rose’s Ice Wand can shoot thistles at zombies like all the other roses, but also has a charge up attack that can freeze a zombie in place while dealing decent damage. The homing shot is also easier to pull off due to all roses having a homing effect, which can be further enhanced with the homing upgrade.

#4 Yeti Chomper

Continuing with Garden Warfare 2, the Yeti Chomper not only has a cool but festive design, its mechanics work much differently than any other Chomper in the game. Instead of using a bite or spray attack, Yeti Chomper instead spits out ice loogies at zombies and can eventually freeze them. The frozen loogies do travel in an arc however, so it might take some time to know how to effectively use Yeti Chomper, but can be deadly in the right hand.

#3 Jolly Holly

Jolly Holly is one of the most festive plants on this list, with her 3 red bulbous heads with 3 wonderful smiling faces. This extremely jolly plant packs more than just a friendly appearance, she can also be a legitimate threat in freeze decks.

Her ability to freeze zombies next door can save you in a pinch and combos extremely well with the previously mentioned Winter Squash and Snowdrop, who gains attack and health when a zombie is frozen.

#2 Holly Barrier

Holly Barrier not only looks very festive, but is a very strong defensive plant. Holly Barrier can fire up to 3 spikey leaf barriers in short succession that not only push zombies back, but also act like well…..barriers. Zombies will have to eat their way through the spikey leaf barriers but get pricked by the barriers in the process. Holly Barrier itself also acts as a strong defense and is difficult to destroy for most zombies.

Much like Jolly Holly, Holly Barrier has 3 red bulbous heads, except he has a more serious look on his 3 faces and is ready to defend your lawn at all costs.

#1 Missile Toe

Get it? Missile Toe? Like instead of Mistle it’s Missile because she launches snow missiles? Huh? Huh? Please laugh. Please? Okay fine! I didn’t want to be funny anyways!

Back to the topic at hand Missile Toe has an extremely festive and cute design but is also a total powerhouse. Missile Toe can generate powerful snow missiles that you can manually aim at zombies to demolish them. The snow missiles deal heavy damage and can destroy most zombies in 1 or 2 shots.

Missile Toe also has a strong dose of splash damage, which freezes any zombies in the radius. This innocent looking but fearsome icy bombardier is the most festive Christmas plant in my opinion, but also extremely powerful.
